This is a stunning coin silver napkin ring, c.1870. The workmanship is superb. The napkin ring combines gilding and silver. There is a handsome gilded cartouche engraved "Margaret Joyce." Around the cartouche are gilded oak branches which cross each other and end in oak leaves and acorns. Applied bands with gilding edge the napkin ring. Each edge then has bands with fine vertical lines followed by a narrow applied gilded band and still another gilded ring. The body of the napkin ring is completely covered with fine horizontal lines with the gilded cartouche and branches superimposed. The interior of the ring is gilded. Inside we see the mark "S" and the number "520." The diameter opening is 1.75" and the width is 1.75". The napkin ring is in beautiful condition and weighs 49.5 grams (1.75 ounces). Because of its design the ring is very difficult to photograph and is more beautiful in reality than the pictures indicate.
