Description

The service is by Gerardus Boyce who worked from about 1820 to 1857 at 101 Spring Street in New York City. Elisha Jones joined Boyce from 1825 to 1830, and the firm was then known as Boyce & Jones. In 1835 Boyce moved to 110 Greene Street, where he remained for more than twenty years as the head of a small shop of five employees in 1850.
The teapot is 10 1/2 inches high by 13 inches (from handle to spout) by 6 1/2 inches and weighs 1434 grams. The sugar bowl is 9 1/2 inches high by 9 1/2 inches (from handle to handle) by 6 inches and weighs 1210 grams. The creamer is 7 1/2 inches high by 7 1/2 inches (from handle to spout) by 4 1/2 inches and weighs 635 grams. The total gross weight is 3280 grams (105.68 troy ounces).
Dent and scratch to the body of the covered sugar, otherwise with pin dents and surface scratches indicative of age, use and polishing. The teapot has some modest crimping to the base, an older repair, and some polishing. The creamer is slightly out of square. Otherwise, in very good antique condition.
