VINTAGE 70'S SCHUTT OPO-DW FIRST GEN RED DOT FOOTBALL HELMET FACEMASK - White

Description

Over the next nine to twelve months, it is my goal to have every style of "High Double Wire" masks that Schutt produced
available to my collector friends.
This goal takes into consideration every mask that existed from their introduction in 1974 until the introduction of the Reverse Strap (RS) masks did away with the "dot" masks in 1985.  That takes into consideration red dot and green dot masks.  This is the next iteration to come up and it is phenomenal!!!
This is an auction for a vintage Schutt OPO-DW
red
dot, football helmet facemask.  This mask was only in production for a couple years before Schutt elongated the two outside vertical bars of the mask to make it more even.  This mask was called the "Giants Special" because the New York Giants were the first to come up with this creation.  Several guys on the Giants wore this style mask when it was first introduced in 1974, including Spider Lockhart, Brad Van Pelt, and Ray Rhodes.
There is no red dot on this mask because the first run of the Giants Special didn't get a dot, because Schutt wasn't putting dots on the facemasks yet.  (This mask came out in '74, and dots didn't show up until '75 or '76.)
This mask is a reproduction mask.
The very long and painstaking process was made to make sure this mask is as exact as possible to those old masks.  It has been dipped in the white, liquid (PVC) coating.  So it has the same thickness and feel that the old coatings from the 70's have. This mask is
awesome!!!
The last picture I included in this auction is the gray version of this mask on one of my personal helmets.  It looks phenomenal!  I literally can't take my eyes off that helmet every time I walk by my shelf!!!
In going through this process, I have thought long and hard about where my pricing needs to be on these masks.  Please understand that this was
not
a cheap endeavor.  This asking price is as low as I can get it so the effort would be compensatory in some form.  I have tried to find a price that is conducive so more collectors can get their hands on this elusive mask.  I hope I have succeeded.
There is no hardware included in this auction.
